MatchRoom ("we," "us," or "our") operates the MatchRoom mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Phone Number: Used solely for identity verification via Firebase Authentication. We store a cryptographic hash of your phone number for friend discovery — never the raw number.
- Display Name and Handicap: Used to identify you within rounds and to other players.
- Device Identifier: A unique, randomly generated ID stored locally on your device, used to associate you with rounds before phone verification.
Information Collected Automatically
- Round and Betting Data: Scores, wager configurations, and payout calculations you create within the App. This data is stored in Firebase Realtime Database and associated with your user ID.
- Course Requests: If you request a course be added, we store the course name, city, and state along with your device ID.
- Push Notification Token: If you grant notification permissions, we store your Expo push token to deliver in-app notifications.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect location data, contacts (unless you explicitly use the friend discovery feature), photos (unless you photograph a scorecard for course data parsing), browsing history, or advertising identifiers.
- We do not serve ads.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Identity Verification: Your phone number verifies your identity so other players can trust wager participants.
- Round Management: Scores, bets, and player data are synced in real time so all participants see the same information.
- Friend Discovery: Phone number hashes allow mutual discovery between contacts who both use the App, without exposing raw phone numbers.
- Course Database: Course requests help us expand our verified course database for all users.
- Notifications: Push tokens deliver relevant in-app alerts (e.g., course approval, bet notifications).
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in Google Firebase Realtime Database, hosted in the United States. Firebase acts as our data processor. Google's Firebase infrastructure provides encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest.
We implement Firebase Security Rules to restrict data access to authenticated users and round participants. Phone numbers are never stored in plaintext — only cryptographic hashes.
4. Data Retention
- Active Rounds: Round data is retained while the round is active and for 60 days after completion.
- User Records: Your user profile (display name, push token, last seen timestamp) is retained as long as your account exists.
- Phone Hashes: Retained as long as your account exists to support friend discovery.
- Course Requests: Retained until processed (approved or discarded), then deleted.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access Your Data: Contact us to request a copy of your stored data.
- Delete Your Account: Contact us at support@matchroomgolf.com to request complete deletion of your account and all associated data from Firebase.
- Export Your Data: Request a machine-readable export of your round history and profile data.
- Opt Out of Notifications: Revoke notification permissions in your device settings at any time.
We will respond to data requests within 30 days.

The App is not directed at children under 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, contact us and we will promptly delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
